2012-10-15 Edition of Referenced Theo. Expressions Now Available
The Referenced Theo. Expressions files available for download have been updated. They are available for download from the Referenced Theo. Expressions (Chinese + Pinyin + English) Downloads and Referenced Theo. Expressions (Chinese + Cantonese Romanization + English) Downloads pages. These files are relatively extensive lists of theo. expressions as they have been found to be rendered in the Chinese publications. Versions sorted by English and versions sorted by romanization are both available.
The current edition is now dated 2012-10-15. It contains 17,648 entries + 9409 alternate headings, compared to the 16,897 entries + 8981 alternate headings that were in the previous edition. For the Mandarin RTE data, Pleco, Wenlin, ChinaScribe, DICT, StarDict (for ColorDict, etc.), and iSilo data files are now available in addition to the PDF files. (We have not been able to make the StarDict data files work with the StarDict program itself, but they may work with ColorDict and other programs that read the StarDict format.)
Note the below comments from the one who produces the RTE, regarding the “compact” version for printing (PDF format):
In response to a comment we received about RTE being too big to print, there is now an extra “compact” version for printing. It contains all the material of the regular PDFs, but requires only about 150 sheets of paper. It does however need a little cutting and folding (instructions are on the front page, and it’s similar to the old pinyin songbook, so anyone who did that should know how to do this).
Margins have been set with bookbinding in mind and footnotes are reformatted to save space.
...this version is ONLY for printing. The pages are in “signature” order for the folding/binding to work, therefore it’ll be awful to use on screen.
We still supply the regular PDFs for screen use.
For now, the compact version is only for Mandarin and ordered by English. I think we should check if there’s any feedback from the field before doing other versions. We might have to make further changes to the layout based on what people tell us.
Bookmarks have been added to the PDF files with “LN-A” (“Link Navigation-Annotation”) included in their filenames, and PDF annotation has been enabled on them as well. See the PDF Link Navigation page and the PDF Annotation (Notes & Highlighting) page for more information.
Note that Pleco is now available for iPhone / iPod Touch / iPad and for Android. The RTE Pleco Instructions file contains instructions for installing the RTE Pleco files in Pleco running on these devices.
As a reminder, note that the Referenced Theo. Expressions (Chinese + Pinyin + English) Web Lookup and Referenced Theo. Expressions (Chinese + Cantonese Romanization + English) Web Lookup pages are now available as well. Rather than containing download links to the RTE data files, they each contain a web form that can be used to look up RTE information.
Thanks go out to the ones who helped to produce this set of resources.
