2012-10-15 Edition of Referenced Theo. Expressions Now Available

The Referenced Theo. Expressions files available for download have been updated. They are available for download from the Referenced Theo. Expressions (Chinese + Pinyin + English) Downloads and Referenced Theo. Expressions (Chinese + Cantonese Romanization + English) Downloads pages. These files are relatively extensive lists of theo. expressions as they have been found to be rendered in the Chinese publications. Versions sorted by English and versions sorted by romanization are both available.

The current edition is now dated 2012-10-15. It contains 17,648 entries + 9409 alternate headings, compared to the 16,897 entries + 8981 alternate headings that were in the previous edition. For the Mandarin RTE data, Pleco, Wenlin, ChinaScribe, DICT, StarDict (for ColorDict, etc.), and iSilo data files are now available in addition to the PDF files. (We have not been able to make the StarDict data files work with the StarDict program itself, but they may work with ColorDict and other programs that read the StarDict format.)

Note the below comments from the one who produces the RTE, regarding the “compact” version for printing (PDF format):

In response to a comment we received about RTE being too big to print, there is now an extra “compact” version for printing. It contains all the material of the regular PDFs, but requires only about 150 sheets of paper. It does however need a little cutting and folding (instructions are on the front page, and it’s similar to the old pinyin songbook, so anyone who did that should know how to do this).

Margins have been set with bookbinding in mind and footnotes are reformatted to save space.

...this version is ONLY for printing. The pages are in “signature” order for the folding/binding to work, therefore it’ll be awful to use on screen.

We still supply the regular PDFs for screen use.

For now, the compact version is only for Mandarin and ordered by English. I think we should check if there’s any feedback from the field before doing other versions. We might have to make further changes to the layout based on what people tell us.

Bookmarks have been added to the PDF files with “LN-A” (“Link Navigation-Annotation”) included in their filenames, and PDF annotation has been enabled on them as well. See the PDF Link Navigation page and the PDF Annotation (Notes & Highlighting) page for more information.

Note that Pleco is now available for iPhone / iPod Touch / iPad and for Android. The RTE Pleco Instructions file contains instructions for installing the RTE Pleco files in Pleco running on these devices.

As a reminder, note that the Referenced Theo. Expressions (Chinese + Pinyin + English) Web Lookup and Referenced Theo. Expressions (Chinese + Cantonese Romanization + English) Web Lookup pages are now available as well. Rather than containing download links to the RTE data files, they each contain a web form that can be used to look up RTE information.

Thanks go out to the ones who helped to produce this set of resources.

Doing Jehovah’s Will Br. Chinese-Pinyin-Eng. LN-A Material Up to Lesson 4 Posted

3-line Chinese-Pinyin-English files containing material from the front cover to Lesson 4 of the Doing Jehovah’s Will brochure are now available for download. (This is the brochure we are now encouraged to study with our students for a few minutes each week to familiarize them with our organization.) The files are available in both Simplified and Traditional Chinese versions. Also, both iPad-Letter-A4 and XLP-iPhone-A5 size files are available, and all the files have LN-A (LinkNav and annotation (notes & highlighting)) support.

The iPad-Letter-A4 size files use letter size as the paper size. When zoomed so that one page fills the entire screen, the material in these files renders at a good, usable size on the iPad and other devices with similarly sized screens. These files can be downloaded from the Doing Jehovah’s Will Brochure (Chinese-Pinyin-English, iPad-Letter-A4, LN-A) page. (See the 3-Line Material on the iPad page for instructions on how to use these files on an iPad.)

The XLP-iPhone-A5 size files use A5 as the paper size, and they are especially suited for use on devices such as the iPhone, the iPod touch, and other devices with similarly sized screens, such as Android phones. These files can be downloaded from the Doing Jehovah’s Will Brochure (Chinese-Pinyin-English, XLP-iPhone-A5, LN-A) page. (See the 3-Line Material on the iPhone and the iPod touch page for instructions on how to use these files on an iPhone or an iPod touch.)

The XLP-iPhone-A5 files should also be a good fit on 6" (15.2 cm) screen Kindles and other similarly sized devices, as well as on tablets with 7" (17.8 cm) screens, as long as these devices have PDF support. (Note that landscape orientation may work best, as explained on the 3-Line Material on the iPhone and the iPod touch page.) Some may prefer to use these files on larger mobile devices like the Kindle DX or the iPad as well.

The XLP-iPhone-A5 files may also be printed out on letter size paper, resulting in Extra Large Print material. (See the Printing Extra Large Print 3-Line Material page for instructions.)

The relevant folders at the 3lines.org site contain web pages with links to the Doing Jehovah’s Will Brochure (Chinese-Pinyin-English, iPad-Letter-A4, LN-A) and Doing Jehovah’s Will Brochure (Chinese-Pinyin-English, XLP-iPhone-A5, LN-A) pages.

Jeremiah Bk. XLP-iPhone-A5 Size LN-A 3-Line Material for Ch. 1 Posted

3-line XLP-iPhone-A5 size files for Chapter 1 of the Jeremiah book are now available for download from the new Jeremiah Book (3-Line, XLP-iPhone-A5, LN-A) page. The files have LN-A (LinkNav and annotation (notes & highlighting)) support, and they are available in Pinyin+Simp. Chinese and Sidney Lau+Trad. Chinese versions.

To help explain how the XLP-iPhone-A5 files may work well on a variety of mobile devices, the following paragraphs are included on the Jeremiah Book (3-Line, XLP-iPhone-A5, LN-A) page:

While the regular files use letter size as the paper size, these files named with “XLP-iPhone-A5” use A5 as the paper size, and are especially suited for use on devices such as the iPhone, the iPod touch, and other devices with similarly sized screens, such as Android phones.

(Note that landscape orientation may work best, as explained below.) Some may prefer to use these files on larger mobile devices like the Kindle DX or the iPad as well.

Also, instructions are included re how to download the files on an iPhone or an iPod touch using GoodReader for iPhone, and how to download the files on an iPad using GoodReader for iPad.

The relevant folders at the 3lines.org site contain an HTML file with a link to the Jeremiah Book (3-Line, XLP-iPhone-A5, LN-A) page.
