Contact Page at tiandi.info Fixed

I just discovered that the Contact page at tiandi.info was not set up properly to forward submitted messages to my email address. Thus, I did not receive any messages previously submitted from the Contact page. This has just been fixed, and the Contact page is now working properly.

My apologies to anyone who tried to contact me before using the Contact page. I was not ignoring you—we just had a failure to communicate due to a silly little technical bug, now firmly squashed!

Sidney Lau XLP-iPhone-A5 Size “My Follower” Bk. 3-Line Material File With LinkNav For Ch. 1 Posted

A Sidney Lau XLP-iPhone-A5 size 3-line material file with LinkNav for Chapter 1 of the “My Follower” book is now available for download from the 3lines.org site. HTML files with links to the 3-Line Material on the iPhone and the iPod touch, Printing Extra Large Print 3-Line Material, and PDF Link Navigation pages have also been posted to the same folder as the PDF file.

At the 3lines.org home page, just answer the Witness-testing questions (no commas), click on the bs (Book Study) graphic, and click through to your desired type of file.

Going forward, I plan to only produce Simplified Pinyin and Traditional Sidney Lau versions of these XLP-iPhone-A5 size “My Follower” book 3-line files with LinkNav. If you would like another version (Traditional Pinyin? Jyutping or Yale?) to be available as well, email me to let me know.

XLP-iPhone-A5 Size “God’s Love” Bk. 3-Line Material Files Upgraded With LinkNav

It appears that more and more, the 3-line, etc. PDF files will be used on mobile devices rather than printed out on paper. To make them more nimble and useful on such devices, the XLP-iPhone-A5 size “God’s Love” book 3-line material files available for download from the “God’s Love” Book (Chinese + Pinyin + English) page have been upgraded with PDF bookmarks and links. To show the presence of these new features, “LinkNav” (“Link Navigation”) has been added to their filenames.

The newly created PDF Link Navigation page provides more information on the LinkNav features, and includes a link to this 32-second QuickTime video screen recording (iPhone version) that shows how PDF bookmarks and links have been implemented in the LinkNav files.

Referenced Theo. Expressions Updated to 2010-02-11 Version

The Referenced Theo. Expressions files, available for download from the Referenced Theo. Expressions (Chinese + Pinyin + English) and Referenced Theo. Expressions (Chinese + JP/Yale Cant. Rom. + English) pages, have been updated. These files are meant to be relatively extensive lists of theo. expressions as they have been found to be rendered in the Chinese publications. Versions sorted by English and versions sorted by romanisation are both available.

The current version is now dated 2010-02-11. A Mandarin Pleco version and a Mandarin Wenlin version are now available in addition to the PDF files. Also, a password is no longer needed to access this resource.

Thanks go out to the one who helped to produce these files. Here are some notes from this person regarding this update:

Most importantly, the notes on the entry for shen2me variants said there was a bug in wtl07 but now I'm not so sure (see revised notes).

Also some entries which previously said "incorrect" now say "old term" if it was in fact used but no longer. And I've done a few other corrections/additions too.

Wenlin-zidian-changes.u8 has been removed as it is no longer needed (Wenlin-instructions.txt has been updated accordingly). This simplifies things.

And I've checked the Pleco stuff and it works fine.

Password Protection Removed From Creator Book Files

In Canada at least, the Creator book is the featured offer for this month. Thus, the Creator Book (Simp. Chinese + Pinyin + English) page is the next resource for which password protection has been removed. This change will gradually be made to other resources as well on a case-by-case basis.

The 3-line material in the PDF files on this page was produced using a relatively early process back when the Creator book was being studied at the Book Study. So, it may not be as refined as currently produced 3-line material, but hopefully it will still be found to be helpful.

tiandi.info Post Regarding the New Apple iPad Has Been Expanded

Those of you who don’t like computers as they are, but who would still like to do some useful “computery” things once in a while, like making use of the resources listed in the Links file, the new Apple iPad could be the device you’ve been waiting for.

This tiandi.info post regarding this remarkable new device has been greatly expanded since I first posted it, with additional material regarding Apple’s approach to product design, Apple’s industry-leading mobile platform, and, of particular interest to us, how the iPad could change for the better the way we do certain things in the Chinese field:

Apple Releases the iPad, “A Magical and Revolutionary Device at an Unbelievable Price”

Talk 9 Recordings

Audio and video recordings of Mandarin public talk 9 are now available from the Mandarin Public Talks Audio & Video page. The recordings are available in MP3, iPod video, CD, and DVD formats. Chairmen’s information is also available in Simp.+Pinyin+English 3-line PDF format.

For information on how to access this page, email me, providing information such as what group or congregation you’re with, who referred you to this site, etc.

Note that the following section has been added to the Mandarin Public Talks Audio & Video page:

Authenticity of the Recordings

I have heard of concerns being expressed that these recordings could “easily” be altered by a malicious third party to make it appear as if the speaker were saying things that he did not actually say. While I am not sure if it is accurate to say that this would be easy to do in a way that is not obvious, or if it would still require the efforts of highly trained (and expensive) professional special effects technicians, I suppose it is theoretically possible. However, it is relatively easy to guard against such tampering:

  • First, it should at least help to make sure to only use recordings downloaded directly from this page.
  • Most importantly, just have a person who is qualified (both spiritually and language-wise) check each recording before it is shown, especially if it is to be shown in a Kingdom Hall.
    • Each public talk recording is now only about 30 minutes long, so this check would only add about that much time to the preparation time required for each presentation.
    • If a person who is qualified both spiritually and language-wise is not available, perhaps alternately someone qualified language-wise could translate the recording, either verbally or in writing, for evaluation by someone else who is spiritually qualified.

Of course, if you learn of any actual tampering with the recordings, let me know right away!
