MEotW: Guóyǔ
The Mandarin Expression of the Week is:
Even though generally “pǔtōnghuà” (a previous MEotW) has been the term used in mainland China to refer to Mandarin, usage of the term “Guóyǔ” has reportedly been increasing in the Xinjiang region of China. This week’s MEotW discusses the possible implications of that.
